West Ham are yet to make a formal bid for Conor Gallagher with the two clubs in talks over a move as they look to fill the hole left by the departure of Declan Rice

  • West Ham are looking to bolster their midfield after Declan Rice left the club
  • The club are currently weighing up a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher
  • The England international started eight of the last nine games of the season

West Ham have contacted Chelsea to ascertain what price they would be willing to sell Conor Gallagher for.

The Hammers are looking for midfield reinforcements after Declan Rice joined Arsenal earlier this month.

David Moyes’ side have plenty to spend having agreed a fee of £105m plus add-ons for their star man.

Though the 23-year-old started eight of Chelsea’s last nine of the most recent campaign, the Blues have shown no signs of interest in negotiating a new deal for Gallagher.

The midfielder would prefer a move to Tottenham who are also interested in the England international. Spurs though need to get players out of the door.

Gallagher, who has two years left on his deal, had been the subject of interest from Everton over a £45m deal back in January.

Though he would like to stay at Stamford Bridge he recognises they are willing to let him go to fund new signings.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with a £100m move for Moises Caicedo, while the likes of Romeo Lavia, Mohammed Kudus and Michael Olise are also on their shortlist.

West Ham meanwhile have also offered a £25m bid Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

The Hammers have also been running parallel negotiations with the likes of Edson Alvarez and Denis Zakaria.

Their pursuit of Joao Palhinha though took a hit after the Fulham player suffered an injury during their pre-season clash with Brentford.

Frank Lampard’s interim tenure brought an improved position in the Chelsea squad for Gallagher, as he started eight of the last nine games in the Blues’ disappointing Premier League campaign, scoring twice, but his time at Stamford Bridge could now be up.

Gallagher proved on a fruitful loan spell at Crystal Palace in 2021-22 that he is highly capable as a box-to-box midfielder, with his high energy and pressing crucial to Patrick Vieira’s team at the time.
