Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers slammed the team’s owners and front office’s efforts, or lack thereof, in reconstructing the roster this offseason.

The third baseman sounded off after getting asked if he felt disappointed about their offseason activity. This came after the Red Sox front office said they intend to splurge on revamping their roster.

‘But they [Red Sox’s ownership] need to make an adjustment to help us players to be in a better position to win,’ Devers told The Athletic, speaking through an interpreter. ‘Everybody in this organization wants to win, and we as players want to win, and I think they need to make an adjustment to help us win.

‘Everybody knows what we need. You know what we need and they know what we need. It’s just some things I can’t say. I’m not allowed.’

Devers is heading into his first season since singing a 10-year, $313million deal in January. Having signed off for the next decade, Devers blatantly expressed his frustration with the team.

The Red Sox have missed the playoffs in the last to years, holding a 78-84 record in both seasons. Over the last five years, Boston has only been to the postseason once.

Last season, they went 3-7 in their last ten games as they sunk to the bottom of the AL East.

Their struggles have led to the Red Sox parting ways with several star players as they attempt to start the rebuilding process. Still, Devers called the ownership out on their lack of ambition in constructing a competitive team.

‘It’s just at the end of the year when you go home early when you know you had a chance to be in the race or competing to make a playoff run and they don’t give you a push and the help you needed, that the team needed at the time, of course, it’s going to sting,’ he added.

The Red Sox will open their season on March 28 with three consecutive series out in the west coast. They will first visit the Seattle Mariners before heading South to Oakland to face the A’s and Los Angeles to square off with the Angels.
