Joseph Nee, a convicted burglar, was the intended victim of the shooter who killed nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel, according to ITV News. After being shot during the incident on Monday night in Dovecot, Liverpool, the 35-year-old remains in the hospital.

After leading police on a 125 mph chase through Cheshire and Merseyside in 2018, he and two other men were sentenced to roughly ten years in prison. Nee was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary, auto theft, reckless driving, driving without insurance, and operating a vehicle while ineligible.

He was also sentenced to six and a half years in prison in 2009 after being found guilty of participating in a criminal ring that inundated Liverpool’s streets with heroin and cracks cocaine. The judge in the case referred to him as a “trusted foot soldier” of a significant organized crime group during the sentencing hearing.

Nee was shot on Monday night after becoming the target of a gunman wearing a balaclava on Kingsheath Avenue in Liverpool’s Dovecot neighborhood.
