In an exclusive interview, Alfonso Ribeiro gives an update on his daughter’s recovery from her May scooter accident. The Dancing With The Stars co-host told People Magazine that the four-year-old is “doing great, but it’s a long process.”
“My daughter is doing great,” the 51-year-old Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum told the popular entertainment magazine while rehearsing in Washington D.C. for the A Capitol Fourth concert special.
He added, “She’s recovering wonderfully. The progress is coming along as we expected. It’s a long, long process. But she’s doing wonderful. The America’s Funniest Home Videos host then reminisced on the day of the accident saying that it was, “Scary times, scary moments, but she’s doing great.”
The day prior to Ava Sue’s fourth birthday, she, according to an Instagram post from her mother, “… crashed off a sit-down scooter…” causing her to have to have emergency surgery, where surgeons had to “scalpel off all of the skin [on her face and arms]” as a result of road rash.
Ribeiro is excited about hosting the A Capitol Fourth concert special. He is also extremely grateful that his daughter will be there to enjoy the holiday concert along with him.
“She’ll be here this weekend and so she’s doing wonderful,” says Ribeiro.
This is Ribeiro’s first time hosting the special, so the extra family support from his princess makes this a true win-win for the host.
“I’m loving the fact that I get to do this, it’s going to be an incredible show,” he told People. “I’m excited to be part of it, for me, hosting this, it really just allows me to kind of utilize some fun and have a great time and celebrate with America.”
The show will include performers such as: Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Boyz II Men, Melinda Carlisle, Charles Esten, and Renee Fleming.
If you want to catch Ribeiro on tonight’s special, tune-in to PBS at 8 EST/5 PST.
