Stefon Diggs shuts down Stephen A. Smith’s claims that he ‘wants out’ of the Buffalo Bills because ‘he’s lost a level of belief’: ‘100 percent not true’

Bills All-Pro Stefon Diggs shutdown Stephen A. Smith’s claims that he wants to be traded out of Buffalo after he ‘lost a level of belief’ in the team.

Smith made waves on ESPN’s ‘First Take’ Monday morning when he boldly claimed the wide receiver wanted to leave the team, leaving not only viewers but also his co-host Dan Orlovsky stunned.

Smith said: ‘You got Stefon Diggs, this brother all-world receiver but clearly wasn’t happy, walked out, didn’t want to talk to nobody. Then he came into training camp, they had some friction they had to get settled and all of this stuff.’

‘Brother wants out. I’m just telling you what I know. I’ve got my own sources,’ Smith continued.

‘Brother wants out. He don’t want to be in Buffalo anymore. I have my sources. Stefon Diggs got to be there, but he would prefer to be gone, because he’s lost a level of belief in the Buffalo Bills. That’s right, I said it.’

‘I am telling you what I know. [The Bills] can deny it. I have my sources. I am telling you what I know. He is not going to force his way out,’ Smith added.

‘He knows he has got to be there and has to perform, but he ain’t feelin’ the Buffalo Bills the way that he once did, because he feels there’s a window of opportunity that they have missed out on. Josh Allen has got to show them that is not true.’

But Diggs swiftly took to social media to fire back a response on X [formerly known as Twitter], denying the rumors.

‘100% not true,’ he posted. ‘I don’t know who the source is but I thought I nip this s*** in the bud already.’

He added” ‘Rocking wit my dawgs… Bills mafia ❤️?through and through !!!’

A rocky start to the offseason between the Bills and their No. 1 wideout seemed to have been put behind them.

There had reportedly been tension said to have stemmed from Diggs’ lack of voice in the offensive scheme, in addition to his minimal impact in the playoff loss to Cincinnati last season.

Diggs had four catches for 35 yards on 10 targets in that 27-10 divisional loss to the Bengals on January 22.

Diggs is said to have stormed out of the locker room after the defeat and made no appearances during the voluntary offseason program. He was M.I.A. for the first day of mandatory minicamp but returned for Day 2, when Bills coach Sean McDermott said the 29-year-old had been excused from the first practice. McDermott was ‘very concerned’ with Diggs’ absence just the day before.

‘I feel like we’re in a real good spot so the rest of it though, the details I want to respectfully keep those conversations in house,’ McDermott told reporters Wednesday.

Quarterback Josh Allen told reporters that he and Diggs were ‘working on some things’ that were ‘not football-related’ in May.

Diggs caught 108 passes for 1,429 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022. His catches ranked fourth in the NFL, his yards fifth and his TD receptions were tied for third.

Diggs signed a four-year, $96 million extension in April 2022 and is set to make $24.415 million in 2023. That puts him fifth among all wide receivers for the 2023 season, per Spotrac.
