After it started growing back, Sarah took to Instagram to post a series of snaps documenting the process of her hair transformation.

One image showed her son grinning as he applied the dye to her hair while another revealed the product she was using.

She wrote: ‘Thanks for all your lovely lovely comments to my last post – Sadly my hair [is] natural hair not platinum blond…..!!!!’

While Sarah didn’t want to make a ‘big deal’ about breaking her cancer news to her children, she told how she considered not telling her husband of 20 years ‘so it didn’t seem real’.

It comes after Sarah revealed she’s undergone gene testing to determine her family’s risk of developing cancer after her own battle with the disease.

Sarah’s mother Ann also had a grueling battle with cancer and died when she was just 10-years-old.

But the star has been incredibly open about her journey, and in a recent interview, she discussed how she has now discovered she has a gene mutation, which made her more likely to get the disease.

The results of the tests solidified Sarah’s decision to get a double mastectomy rather than a single, as the gene meant she had a 50/50 chance of getting cancer again in the future in the breast that wasn’t already affected.

It also meant there is a 50/50 chance she would pass the gene on to her children, sons Billy, Charlie, Rafferty and Laurie.

Sarah discovered that while she was negative for BRCA1 and BRCA2, she tested positive for PALB2, which could have broader implications for her children and potential future grandchildren.

In the UK, breast cancer survival rates have doubled in the past 50 years, according to Cancer Research UK, partly due to improvements in treatment, and also to earlier detection through screening.
