Where Is John Sterling Today

Where Is John Sterling Today? Many people are curious about the whereabouts of American sportscaster John Sterling, who is best known as the radio play-by-play commentator for Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees.

During the 1970–71 NBA season, John began his broadcasting career as the play-by-play announcer for the then-Baltimore Bullets.

From 1971 until 1978, he worked as a play-by-play broadcaster for Morgan State University football. John traveled to New York in 1971 to work as a talk show host for WMCA.

Where Is John Sterling Today?

John Sterling will continue to go to Boston, Baltimore, and Citi Field for the Subway Series against the New York Mets.

And, with the Yankees owning the most outstanding record in baseball, John intends to attend every playoff telecast. He has a virtually unbreakable 162-game streak spanning five decades of regular-season baseball broadcasting.

And now, the famed New York Yankees play-by-play announcer Sterling is scaling back. He returned to New York in 1989 to announce Yankees games on WABC radio.

Since then, the sportscaster has worked with the Yankees, announcing games on WFAN radio and its affiliates in the New York Yankees Radio Network. The Yankees struck a ten-year deal with WFAN in 2013, and he was retained. John is presently signed until the 2022 season.

John signed a new deal with WFAN for 2022 on October 18, 2021, with the possibility of a reduced schedule.

The sportscaster lives in Edgewater, New Jersey. Previously, he lived in Teaneck, New Jersey. John was stuck in his automobile about a mile from his house in Edgewater on September 1, 2021, after broadcasting a Yankees game remotely from Yankee Stadium.

Rickie Ricardo, a Spanish-language Yankees announcer who lives in Edgewater, was driving his Jeep Cherokee home when he came upon John.

What Happened To John Sterling?

John Sterling recently stated that Chris Oliviero, market president of Audacy New York, informed him that the president wants him to be ready for the major games at the end of the year.

The New York Post was the first to disclose on Monday that the sportscaster would be reducing his broadcast schedule in 2022.

Before joining the Yankees broadcast crew in 1989, John famously did not miss a game for 38 years, including play-by-play for the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Braves.

He said he’s discussed taking some time off during the season with Mets broadcasters Howie Rose and Gary Cohen, his old radio partner Michael Kay, and other notable play-by-play voices in Major League Baseball.

The sportscaster mentioned this week’s journey to Minnesota, which begins at 8:40 p.m., New York Time, with the squad expected to return home at almost 4 a.m.

Who Is John Sterling’s Replacement?

The Yankees have named Justin Shackil and Ricky Ricardo as replacements for John Sterling.

Rickie is a sportscaster, talk show presenter, and voice-over performer who works in Spanish and English.

After the Florida Marlins (now the Miami Marlins) sold many of their stars in a fire sale after winning the World Series in 2003, the team sought Ricardo’s assistance in attracting young Latino fans. In 2005, he began performing Spanish-language play-by-play as a fill-in.

The talk show presenter is well-known in football for his calls after successful and missed field goals. Ricardo yelled S, seor! (Yes, sir!) five times after Jake Elliott’s 61-yard game-winning field goal helped the Eagles overcome the New York Giants in 2017.

When Cody Parkey kicked the famed Double Doink, a blocked field goal that helped the Eagles overcome the Chicago Bears and advance in the 2018–19 NFL playoffs, Ricky exclaimed “No, seor!” six times in a cry that went viral.
