In July, JZ started serving his term, but in August, he was admitted to the hospital for surgery related to an unexplained medical issue. He was given medical release the following month and permitted to complete the remainder of his term at home.

Jacob was born on April 12, 1942, in Nkandla. He was a politician and South African president from 2009 until he resigned under pressure in 2018. In addition, JZ also held positions of leadership in the country’s ruling party, the African National Congress, including vice president from 1999 to 2005, president from 1997 to 2007, and deputy president from 1997 to 2007.

The former president was fired in June 2005 following the conviction of businessman Schabir Shaik for fraud and corruption. Shaik had been charged with soliciting bribes from a French armaments manufacturer on Zuma’s behalf.

According to the judge in that hearing, Shaik and Zuma had a typically corrupt connection. He was ultimately accused of two charges of corruption.

Despite the allegations, he was chosen over Mbeki as party president. Later in the same month, Zuma was charged with additional counts of money laundering, racketeering, and tax evasion in addition to the original charges of corruption and fraud. On a legal technicality, these charges were ultimately dropped in September 2008.

Where Is Jacob Zuma Now?

After being released on medical parole, the 79-year-old politician is currently serving the rest of his 15-months sentence at his home in Nklandla.

The former president returned to jail after a South African prison ordered him as his parole was invalid and unlawful. The court also declared that his time spent out of jail wouldn’t be counted on his 15-month sentence.

The country went into a riot after Zuma’s followers protested against the court’s hearing. Many even lost their lives during the protest, but it did not change the court’s decision.

Jacob’s disease was not disclosed. However, he had to undergo surgery after imprisonment. One of his spokespeople said, “At the time that imprisonment had an exponential impact in terms of deteriorating his condition.”

The leader of the opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, said, “This is a big victory for the rule of law and the principle of equality before the law,” according to the BBC.
