• TNT Sports did not have a studio team for the opening day of the first Test
  • Fans were very frustrated with their coverage as England toiled away in India
  • TNT Sports confirmed they will have a full studio team from the second Test

TNT Sports have pledged to bring in a full studio team for the final four Tests of his England’s five-match series in India after fans complained about their coverage on Thursday.

The broadcaster only secured the rights to the series last week, and due to the last-minute nature of negotiations, this meant that fans had to listen to commentary from the host broadcaster as TNT Sports did not have a team out in India.

Meanwhile, TNT Sports host Matt Floyd was not seen by viewers at all, the toss was not shown live after coverage started five minutes late, and the lunch and tea breaks were largely used to show extended highlights from the day’s play.

But TNT Sports have insisted they will look to fix these issues, starting with the second Test next week, by putting together a studio team to offer expert analysis.

Speaking to i, a TNT spokesperson said: ‘The proximity between the agreement to show England’s tour of India on TNT Sports and the start of the series has meant we have been unable to implement our usual pre-production process for the first Test from Hyderabad.

‘However, we will have an on-screen team in place as usual for the remainder of the series who will be able to offer expert insights and analysis for fans watching on TNT Sports.’

The same outlet has reported that former England captain Alastair Cook and fast bowler Steven Finn are expected to be part of TNT Sports’ coverage for the rest of the series.

Both men have previously worked with TNT Sports when England have played away from home in recent years.

TNT Sports may be set to revamp their coverage from next week, but that was no comfort to fans, who pay up to £30 a month for the channel on the opening day of the first Test.

One viewer posted on X: ‘Sports coverage on @tntsports @SkySports @eurosport is becoming atrocious.

‘Watching #INDvENG on TNT. No studio, no analysis, no guests. Just like the #AFCON2023 on Sky. We’re paying through the nose for rubbish!!’

Another added: ‘TNT Sport coverage threadbare. They’ve got live pictures and BCCI comms but no studio and zero analysis so far. Lunch just highlights of what we’ve seen so far.’

There was also some uncertainty from fans as to how well England were doing after the first session, with no experts on hand to analyse England’s showing with the bat.

‘Woke up at lunch. 108/3, 300 would be good. 3 quick wickets , can we get to 250.

‘Almost no idea if it’s any good, because I’ve no idea if our spin bowlers can offer control let alone threat.

‘And #TNT is rubbish,’ one fan wrote.

It ended up being a difficult day for the tourists in Hyderabad as they were bundled out for 246 after electing to bat first, with captain Ben Stokes the only player to pass 50.

India made a rapid start to their response, as Yashasvi Jaiswal hit an unbeaten 76 off just 70 balls to take the hosts to 119-1 at the close of play.
