Schools across Leeds are put on LOCKDOWN after ‘credible threat’ email of violence against children and staff – as parents are warned to be ‘vigilant’ when picking up kids
Schools across Leeds have been put on lockdown after ‘credible threat’ of violence against children and staff was made.
Scores of worried parents have been sent emails informing them a number of schools in the city have been put into a ‘soft’ lockdown and to be ‘vigilant’ when picking up their children.
It is unclear what this threat is at this time, but some parents have been told their children’s school has entered a ‘soft invacuation’, which means pupils will be kept inside all day, reports Leeds Live.
Gates, doors and windows have also been closed.
So far, schools in Hunslett Carr and Rothwell have received the warning.

A letter sent to parents with children at Sharp Lane Primary School has said that ‘they have no further information about the threat’ but reassured them that the school had not received a ‘direct threat.’
It also asked parents to be ‘vigilant’ when picking up their children at the end of the school day and report any ‘suspicious individuals near the school’ to the police.
The full letter reads: ‘Following information from police about a credible threat to all schools in Leeds, Sharp Lane Primary School has implemented a ‘soft invacuation’ procedure.
‘This means that all children will be kept indoors for the full day. All gates remain closed and locked as usual and doors and windows within school will remain closed all day.
‘We have no further information regarding the threat at this time but please be reassured that Sharp Lane Primary School has not received a direct threat, and the children and staff are safe.
‘Please can we ask you to be vigilant when picking up your children at the end of the day.’
In the absence of information, worried parents have taken to social media to air their concerns.
One said: ‘What the hell is going on with Leeds schools? Are our kids safe??’
Another said: ‘Schools in Leeds have all been put on absolute lockdown due to a threat. Going to be worried about my niece and nephew now.’
One woman agreed: ‘Really concerned about the schools in Leeds, my fellas colleagues have had emails saying their kids schools are locked down because of a credible threat?
‘Does anyone know what’s going on?’
Worried parents have voiced their concerns online following the warnings
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Police are aware of an email which has been sent to a number of schools in West Yorkshire today.
‘This is being investigated by police and officers are providing reassurance and safety advice to affected schools.’
MailOnline has approached Leeds City Council for further clarification.
