After a miraculous comeback from chemotherapy, Carlton defender Sam Docherty will play in the Blues’ season-opening match against Richmond at the MCG on Thursday night.

Docherty, 28, has been in full training in recent weeks, including dominating a VFL practice match, and coach Michael Voss confirmed that he will face the Tigers on Monday.

His selection is a Cinderella comeback after undergoing 12 weeks of chemo to fight testicular cancer for the second time. He was diagnosed with cancer in August of last year.
