An investigation is underway in North Carolina after a 3-year-old boy’s body was discovered in his family’s pool on Sunday.
The child, who was not publicly identified, was found deceased in an above-ground pool in Caldwell County. WSOC-TV reported that the mother found the boy after he somehow got out of the house in the middle of the night.
The mother told the news outlet that there was a childproof safety latch on the back door and a gate on the back porch leading to the 4-foot pool. She claimed she had planned to get fencing around the pool in addition to an alarm.
Deputies said an autopsy is pending as they continue their investigation.
