An Illinois woman arrested last year for concealing a body in her storage unit has now been charged with murder.

Marcy L. Oglesby was arrested on October 11, 2022, when investigators were called to a suspicious odor at a storage facility in Maquon.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies met with the facilities owner and manager and the unit’s owner — Oglesby — to investigate. Oglesby unlocked the unit and told deputies the smell came from an opossum that had died inside, KTVI reported.

But when they asked what was inside a large box in the unit, Oglesby said there was a body inside. Deputies halted their immediate investigation, called in the state crime lab, and obtained a warrant to open the box. When they did, they found decomposed remains.

Oglesby was arrested and charged with concealing a body.

But on Monday this week, Oglesby appeared via Zoom in court to be charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery/ingest toxic substance, and concealment of a homicidal death.

Local media did not provide any details about the murder, including the identity of the victim.
