New York Yankees star Aaron Judge told reporters that the big toe injury he suffered last season would likely impact him for the rest of his career, while also stating he hopes the team adds another talented player in free agency.

Judge missed 42 games after tearing a ligament in his right big toe when he crashed into the fence at Dodger Stadium last June 3 and his absence played a major role in the Yankees falling out of the playoff picture.

Despite his lengthy absence, the 6-foot-7, 282-pound slugger returned July 28 and wound up hitting .262 with 37 homers and 75 RBIs in 106 games.

But, ahead of the new season, Judge admitted that he’s going to have to keep on top of the toe injury for the rest of his career.

Speaking on Tuesday, he said: ‘It’s going to be I think a constant maintenance I think the rest of my career. Anything with injuries like that, you just got to stay on top of it so it doesn´t flare up again.’

‘I keep getting hurt in right field, so I think that’s why they moved me to center field,’ he added, drawing laughs at a news conference.

‘I think it’s about playing smarter, understanding the field, understanding the dimensions. In that case, I thought I had one extra step and I didn’t in that situation, so that always goes back on me.

‘I got to be a little smarter there. So, yeah, just like this year, I’ve got play smart. But, no, I don´t think they’ll be any cement bottoms of walls in center field.’

He was also asked by reporters if he believed the team had another move in them, due to the numerous big-named pitchers still on the free agent market.

‘I hope so, they’re always working you know,’ answered the power hitting slugger.

They have also been linked with World Series winner Jordan Montgomery

Judge also told reporters that he hopes the Yankees make another big free agency signing

‘You know that’s the thing that’s amazing about being here with the Yankees is you know, they’re always trying to improve. They’re always trying to make moves… if it’s via trade, if it’s via free agency.

‘So I definitely feel like there might be another move on the way but, you never know we’ll see.’

Last week Yankees general manager Brian Cashman echoed similar sentiments that the organization may not be done adding firepower ahead of the upcoming season when he said: ‘We’re not “pencils down” by any means. If there are ways to improve the club, we can be open-minded to that.’

New York has been heavily linked to National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell, as well as a reunion with World Series Champion Jordan Montgomery.
