A man has today pleaded guilty to the murder of Leeds woman Kirstie Ellis.

Tony Brooks, of Agbrigg Road in Wakefield, changed his plea to guilty when he appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Monday. Brooks had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter when he appeared at Leeds Crown Court back in April, but denied murder.

Kirstie, 35, was found dead on Friday, March 25 ,at a home in Stanhall Mews, Stanningley. Police launched a murder investigation after her body was found and Brooks was charged with her murder.

Brooks, 36, originally denied the murder charge and was due to stand trial on October 18. He will now remain in custody and will be sentenced on Thursday, November 3. Brooks appeared at Leeds Crown Court today through video link from HMP Leeds.

After Kirstie’s death, her family paid tribute to her, saying: “Our lives have been shattered and turned upside down with the news that no parent wants to hear, that our gorgeous daughter is no longer with us.

“Kirstie Anne Ellis had a beautiful soul, a lover of music, socialising and having fun, her whole family is heartbroken over the loss of such an amazing woman. Kirstie had many friends and family who loved her and she will be missed so dearly.”
