Illinois’s Democrat Governor is under fire for wrongly claiming that crime rates are ‘coming down’ in Chicago after the city faced at least 36 armed robberies over Thanksgiving weekend alone.
Another wave of armed robberies was reported by Chicago police overnight after nine more people became victims of vicious attacks.
Monday night’s outbreak of frightening violent crime came after a whopping 20 robberies happened in the city just on Sunday.
Violent crime is in fact up a staggering 18.3 percent since 2019 – so it’s unclear where Pritzker got the misinformation from or why he would believe that crime is on the decline in the crime-ridden city of Chicago.

Governor JB Pritzker, 58, offered a bizarre response to the wave of terrifying events – saying that violent crime has actually ‘been coming down,’ which prompted CBS Chicago to ask ‘what is our governor smoking?’
Four masked suspects charged at a woman on a busy Chicago street and robbed her at gunpoint with a rifle
Pritzker’s outrageous claim was that ‘violent crime has been coming down [in Chicago], actually for three years, but in particular over the last year.’
‘Shootings and murders have come down significantly. Again, it doesn’t make anyone feel safer to just hear a statistic; it will take some time, but that is something people should know.’
‘[The Chicago Police Department] publishes statistics where you can see where the problem areas are with car thefts and robberies and so on, but shootings and murders have come down significantly,’ he went on to tell Crain’s Chicago Business.
But the ‘statistics’ Pritzker referred to show the exact opposite.
Since 2019 – violent crime, which is defined by the FBI as murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery and aggravated battery – has increased 56 per cent across the board.
Murder has increase 23 percent and criminal sexual assault has risen marginally by 1 percent.
Theft and robbery has significant increased – robbery by 38 percent and theft by 43 percent, with motor vehicle theft sky-rocketing by a shocking 231 percent.
There have been 69,415 incidents of motor vehicle theft so far this year.
This isn’t the first time Pritzker hasn’t been factually accurate about conditions in his state. He’s made questionable remarks about Illinois’s financial position – claiming it was in its strongest position in decades in 2021, despite the net position plummeting every year for two decades.
Pritzker also signed off on the ‘most gerrymandered map in the nation’ after promising in his first campaign to veto any redistricting maps proposed by law-makers.
The Democrat politician’s fibs came after a shocking video was released on Wednesday – which showed the terrifying moment a woman was robbed by a gang armed with rifles at a Chicago intersection.
The woman from Sunday’s robbery was left on the corner with her suitcase as she glanced down the street before she turned around and walked away
The incident took place on September 23, but surveillance video of the scene was just revealed on Wednesday after the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication refused to release it.
The video of the woman being robbed begins as she crosses the walkway at North Avenue in the heart of Wicker Park before the car pulls up.
The passenger doors swing open as one suspect dressed in black with a mask on his face, points the rifle straight at her.
Three more assailants dressed in a light grey hoodie and black outfits then go after the woman who let go of her suitcase that sits on the corner.
With her hands up, she gave up her backpack as one of the robbers snatches it and the other two go through her pockets.
They then sped off and went on to rob four other people as cops in the area refused to follow the armed suspects.
NBC Chicago provided details about the incidents that happened last night – which were all similar, but not proven to be committed by the same people.
In two of Monday night’s robberies the suspects were seen exiting a blue sedan – and in four other witnesses reported seeing suspects flee the scene in a black car.
The first attack happened at 9:36 pm in the East Pilsen neighborhood – when two adult males were walking down the street before being approached by a blue Honda sedan which two males hopped out of with handguns and demanded the victims hand over their belongings.
Two women -one who was an off-duty cop – were confronted by a man who robbed them at gunpoint at 9:55 pm in Little Italy before he fled in a blue sedan.
At 10:55 pm a 50-year-old man faced two armed males who emerged from a black sedan and demanded he hand over his personal property in Bridgeport.
Next – at 11:30 pm, an man was driving in Ashburn when a black Nissan pulled up next to him and four men jumped out and robbed him.
A just after midnight a similar robbery took place in South Cottage – where a 52-year-old man was walking to his vehicle when a black Nissan approached and three armed males exited the car to demand his personal property.
On Saturday – Chicago police issued a community alert warning to residents, which stated that 10 robberies were committed by a group of armed men in a black Nissan Altima – in two of those attacks victims were struck and another victim was shot.
The alert warned: ‘Be aware of your surroundings and unfamiliar or suspicious people in your area. Walk with groups of individuals and do not carry large sums of money. Do not try to rationalize or confront offenders, it could lead to possible injury.’
