In 1999, at the age of 12, Murray won his first notable title for his age group at the Orange Bowl, a prestigious event for junior players.

By 2003, he was ranked as the number six junior player in the world.

In the 2004-instated combined rankings, he reached number two in the world.

In 2005, Murray turned professional, when he then began competing in numerous international tournaments.

These include the Open SEAT in Barcelona, Wimbledon and Queen’s.

In November of that year, he captained Scotland at the inaugural Aberdeen cup against England.

He ended 2005 as BBC Scotland’s Sports Personality of the Year.
