Back in the 1980s, someone created and named a simple casserole dessert after Tom Selleck – or Robert Redford, depending on where the instructions came from. It features a shortbread cookie base, which is pre-baked and cooled. The cake is then topped with a cheesecake-like layer of sweetened cream cheese combined with whipped cream, followed by a layer of chocolate pudding. After layering the pudding and the whipped cream, the dessert can be chilled before serving.

Selleck’s name has also been appended to a cake recipe — sometimes known as the Better than Tom Selleck Cake or the Next Best Thing to Tom Selleck cake. This recipe has a number of variations involved. Some versions require the baker to create a chocolate cake, poking it all over with the handle of a wooden spoon when cooled, then pouring a caramel mixture over it and allowing it to cool. The set cake can then be frosted at will. Another version is similar to a pineapple upside-down cake. A fourth one involves ice cream and candy bars. Indeed, it’s a versatile treat, named after a versatile actor.
