UEFA are to set introduce a new five-year limit on how long clubs can spread player transfer fees amid Chelsea’s recent spending.

Since the arrival of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital last summer, the Blues have been offering new players lengthy contracts.

Mudryk’s deal at Chelsea will run until 2030

One of their latest arrivals in Mykhailo Mudryk has signed for £80million in an eight-and-a-half year deal with the club.

Chelsea will be able to record the fee as around £9.4million-a-year for UEFA’s Financial Fair Play via amortisation, the action or process of gradually writing off the initial cost of an asset.

However, the Times are reporting that such payments may no longer be able to take place later this year.

It is said that UEFA are going to set the length of time clubs are able to spread a new player’s transfer fee to a maximum length of five years.

Their new policy will be introduced ahead of this summer’s transfer window after some clubs became concerned with Chelsea’s recent strategy.

FIFA regulations state that player contracts should not be over five years unless a particular country’s laws say they can, with the UK not having a limit.

Chelsea will not be affected by UEFA’s new law with any of the signings they have currently made.

Graham Potter’s side have already welcomed six new arrivals this month as they look to get their season back on track.

Youngsters David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos have both signed, with the Blues securing Joao Felix on loan until the summer.

Benoit Badiashile has also joined, with Noni Madueke arriving after Mudryk.

Chelsea have spent over £400million since the summer and there is little to suggest that they are done for the time being.

They are set to make another big money move for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez, having failed to sign him in their previous attempt.
