Hayden Panettiere is getting honest about her struggles with post-partum depression.

During a sit-down interview with E!’s The Rundown, the 33-year-old actress opened up about how she struggled as a new mom following the birth of her daughter, Kaya, who is now 8.

“I wish I knew about postpartum depression,” she shared. “I wish I knew to look out for it.”

Hayden added that she “thought there was something seriously wrong with me, so I thought, ‘Fireball will fix this—duh!’ And it didn’t. It does for a moment, but then it makes everything worse.”

Her experience, she says, was particularly isolating because she wasn’t told about it then and there was no support.

“And then it hurts for you,” Hayden says. “You’re like, ‘I should be able to get over this all by myself.’”

Now, Hayden is hoping that her own story with the diagnosis helps others with their own struggles.

“I wish somebody told me that that was a possibility, told me it’s OK if you birth your child and you’re not immediately like, ‘Oh my god, I love you more than anything in the entire world!’” she says. “It’s OK and not abnormal if [your baby] comes out and it’s a blob, and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is like a crazy little creation that I’m going to love when I get to know you.’”

This is not the first time Hayden has spoken about her depression. Find out what else she shared here…
