Jose Mourinho is ‘making a habit of upsetting people’ at Tottenham and has the audacity of looking to the likes of Gareth Balr and Dele Alli to bail him out, according to pundit Jamie Redknapp.

Mourinho’s side fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Manchester City on Saturday evening, which leaves them 17 points adrift of the Premier League leaders.

Dele Alli and Gareth Bale were brought on by Mourinho despite the Spurs manager having previously criticised both players in public.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: ‘Spurs were passive throughout, Gundogan in such good form, numbers I did not think he would have, they are full of confidence. Lloris having a nightmare, the defence lacking confidence.

‘Tottenham were outclassed, they are now 14 points behind City.

‘When I see this Spurs, they are a shadow of that team earlier in the season, they are really struggling, he is trying to make others happy.

‘Moussa Sissoko and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were working for them, but now Mourinho is trying to please fans. He keeps making mistakes because he keeps changing back four. He has been treating Bale and Alli badly now wants them to bail him out. He is making a habit of upsetting people.’

Alli was making just his fifth Premier League appearance of the season, all of which have come as a substitute.

The midfielder was linked with Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window and has endured a difficult relationship with Mourinho.

After Tottenham’s Carabao Cup win against Stoke in December Mourinho accused Alli of ‘creating problems for his own team’.

Mourinho said: ‘A player in that position is a player that has to link and create and not to create problems for his own team.’

Bale, meanwhile, has struggled to make the desired impact since returning to the club on loan from Real Madrid.

The Wales international has one goal in seven league appearances this season.

Mourinho recently criticised a social media post from Bale in which the winger said that he had ‘a good session today’. The Tottenham boss said that there was a ‘contradiction’ between the post and reality.

Rodri’s penalty put City ahead in Saturday’s clash with Ilkay Gundogan proceeding to score a brace to make it 3-0.

Tottenham have lost five of their last six games in all competitions, with the loss to City following on from an FA Cup exit against Everton.
