A group of Fiorentina fans have called for their Serie A match against Juventus on Sunday to be cancelled following the devastating storms that have devastated metropolitan of Florence.

Flooding and adverse weather conditions have ravaged Tuscany and central Italy in recent days, with Reuters reporting that six people have passed away and another two have been reported missing.

Speaking today on the ongoing situation, Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella stated that there were currently no plans to postpone the fixture, with Serie A officials stating that there would be a minutes silence ahead of the match out of respect for the victims of the storm.

But supporter’s group Curva Fiesole have issued a statement in response, insisting that Sunday’s match be called off.

‘Part of our city is completely on its knees,’ the statement reads.

‘Houses are destroyed, lives in tatters and while it continues to rain people think of playing the game on Sunday as if nothing had happened.

‘In a clear, decisive and categorical fashion, the Curva Fiesole ask that the match be postponed, so that the energy and resources are dedicated exclusively to our people who are struggling and not to put on a sporting event.

‘We demand respect or the victims, their families, for those who have lost everything in just a few hours and now feel abandoned, without light or electricity, surrounded by water.’

Storm Ciaran has caused widespread damage across western Europe, forcing 190 people to evacuate their homes in Florence with concerns that the famous River Arno may flood the city.

Pictures of the devastation show the streets of the city have been flooded with water, while trees have been blown over and cars have become submerged due to the unparalleled rainfall.

The fan group also states that it has been working to help those affected by the flooding, collecting provisions and equipment, including gloves, spades and buckets to help clean-up efforts.

On Friday, Mayor Nardella said, according to Calico Mercato: ‘To date there are no plans to postpone the match – said the mayor – but the situation will be monitored between now and the next few hours.

‘We are working tirelessly, but if it rains again on the weekends the rescue operations would become difficult Unfortunately the forecasts don’t look good.’

Fiorentina have lost two of their previous outings in the Italian top-flight and currently sit seventh in the table, one place off European qualification and six points behind Massimiliano Allegri’s side who sit second in the standings.

Despite that, Vincenzo Italiano’s side are unbeaten in the Europa Conference League so far this season, having claimed a 6-0 victory against Serbian side Cukaricki last week.

Following that victory, they were beaten 1-0 last weekend by Lazio, with Ciro Immobile scoring in the fifth minute of injury time, after La viola had a goal chalked by VAR for a handball in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
