  • Their South American stars were also back after a chaotic international break

Jurgen Klopp was given a boost ahead of Saturday’s test at Manchester City as several injured stars returned to training.

Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Joe Gomez all had to sit out the match against Brentford but were back firing at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday.

Alisson, Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, and Luis Diaz were also pictured after being away on international duty in South America.

The first three had a chaotic time at the Brazil-Argentina World Cup qualifier, which saw fans and police clash in the stands, while Diaz scored twice in three minutes in front of his emotional father for Colombia.

Liverpool face City in the 12.30pm kick-off on Saturday in a top-of-the-table Premier League encounter.

Klopp’s men sit just a point behind Pep Guardiola’s title winners, meaning they can leapfrog City with a win.

Gravenberch is back in contention after a couple of games, having missed the 3-2 loss against Toulouse and the 3-0 win against Brentford.

Konate felt something in his hamstring, forcing him to miss the Brentford game and withdraw from France duty, but he is back competing for a space in the back line.

Jones has been out ever since coming off against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup near the start of the month but Klopp previously said that he should be back in the mix around now.

The timeline with Gomez is a little less clear. He was an unexpected omission from the squad to face Brentford and Liverpoo are yet to estimate when he will be back.

Other photographs from training reveal Klopp showing off his football skills.

He has beaten Guardiola more than any other manager in football and will be hoping to channel that history into Saturday’s fixture.

However, Guardiola was recently revealed as the most influential manager in football according to a poll by LiveScore.

Having led City to the Treble last season, he has them top of the table again after Tottenham lost their previous two games under Ange Postecoglou.

At ther Etihad Stadium last season, City thrashed Liverpool 4-1 with Jack Grealish being named Man of the Match.
