Who Is Tunde Adebimpe? 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Tunde Adebimpe

Find out “10 Things You Didn’t Know About Tunde Adebimpe” Since the beginning of the quarantine, TV to radio singer Tunde Adebimpe launched a Band Camp page under his own name where he released a colorful EP in early May, which has since followed with a pair of singles.

The EP features previously unreleased music that Adebimpe wrote with a backing band (including actor and original Sonic Youth member Richard Edson on drums) for a 2017 multimedia project that he set in place for the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis, as the two singles are more like the work of someone stuck in quarantine, the former venting frustrations with the Nazis and the latter a much-needed dive into heavy synth optimism.

Who Is Tunde Adebimpe?

Tunde is returning to a high profile career in music, even his recent one. Colbert appearance (where he was still featured as TV on Tunde Adebimpe Radios, performing the song Love Dog by TVotRs) sounded more like an excuse to show off his pedals on loop than an attempt to rekindle people’s enthusiasm for his group. It looks like everything else has been done since Seeds was more fun than passionate with the indisputable pleasure Run the Jewels for a Track sure RTJ3, forming a surreal jam group with Mike Patton and Anticon host Doseone in 2016, and the Anticons twentieth anniversary party that crashed a few years later for an impromptu set with Doses co-conspirator Themselves Jel, even hinting at possible collaborations futures with the producer.

Meanwhile, his name also continues to appear on the periphery of posters for last year’s hottest films with Marriage story, and now (for a crowd less concerned with the Oscars) with She dies tomorrow. Many of us remember his subtle performance in Rachel is getting married a little over ten years ago, but when did Tunde Adebimpe become a major player?

The simple answer here is that Tunde was acting fine before he came back to Cookie Mountain. I imagine anyone who has seen the romantic comedy IFC 2001 Jump tomorrow for the first time since, as, 2004 did it out of curiosity upon seeing Tundes’ name on the poster in the lead role. Before that, he even worked a career in television as animator for MTV Celebrity Deathmatch before intercepting a mixtape from the same group of weirdos who started Anticon, inspiring a pivot towards choosing the music that would pay off in 2006 when Wolf Like Me became ubiquitous.

Rachel is getting married It was probably the moment most of us noticed, however. At this point, TVotR had released the fairly accessible Dear Science, picking up an additional fan base that may have been turned off by the cavernous post-punk of Cookie Mountain with the new discs forays into funk and R&B. Among their fanbase was Jonathan Demme, a director whose concept of cameos was less of a joke and more of a serious offer to include his favorite musicians in his films, notably giving Chris Isaak a bill at the opening of Thesilenceofthelambs for what is essentially a substantive role. Likewise, Tunde plays the titular Rachel’s fiance in the movie Demmes, and his screen time contrasts with the few lines he gave suggests that this was a cameo, that he was just a musician Demme respected enough to reach out to, rather than a seasoned actor worthy of the role (Adebimpe sings and dances at the very musical wedding, which makes it a little less strange to see him play in this role)

The first half of the 2010s saw Adebimpe plunge back into music, dropping TVotR’s last two recordings before a long hiatus, and collaborating with Massive Attack, Tinariwen and the group Dave Siteks Maximum Balloons project, which launched alongside the new Tundes concert, the short-lasting Higgins waterproof black magic bracelet. But a 2014 on the spot Portlandia brought his acting career back to center stage and paved the way for leading roles in the 2015 mumblecore spinoff films Bad baby and 7 Chinese brothers. Not as widely seen as the Demmes movie, but this pair of credits marked the first time we’ve seen Tunde on the big screen in supporting roles rather than the Outskirts, in the premiere with Kristen Wiig and Sebastin Silva, in the last a comic book sheet to Jason Schwartzman.

And it just happened to be around since then, much the same way he was around the musical sphere five years ago. He appeared in the first season of Research group and starred in the second season of The Girlfriend Experience, which probably led him to resume the service of Amy Seimetz for She dies tomorrow. He was somewhat less explicitly involved in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, and lent his voice to avant-garde animation projects, such as Adult Swims Lazor Wulf and a strange children’s show called Adventure timePerry mason to restart? Yes, there he is on a street corner singing gospel tunes.

Earlier this year, the TV on the radio had a program scheduled, which obviously was postponed because, you know, everything was postponed. I’m not sure if this signaled a resuscitation of the band that hasn’t been heard for five years, but it feels like Adebimpes has found a groove spreading across so many disparate corners of pop culture, most of it. of them being unequivocally cool. Its unknown director’s job for Yeah Yeah Yeahs rivaled that of Spike Jonzes at the start of their career, whereas today it doesn’t matter what is sporadic multimedia projects he throws together more than compensating for the disappointment of his group who died out just as they entered the trip hop. FL

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Tunde Adebimpe

Tunde Adebimpe is an all-around artist. Some might even say that he’s a creative genius. That said, however, acting is probably what most people know him best for. Tunde started his professional acting career in the late 1990s. While he doesn’t have the longest acting resume, he has worked on quite a few successful projects and he always finds a way to make his mark. Viewers may recognize him from things like The Girlfriend Experience and Lazor Wulf, but he has another big project in the works. Tunde will be in an upcoming TV series called The Idol which will likely come out some time in 2023. Keep reading to learn 10 things you didn’t know about Tunde Adebimpe.

1. He’s from the Midwest

Tunde was born and raised in the St. Louis area, but he went to high school in Pennsylvania. His parents are originally from Nigeria which is where his name comes from. Tunde comes from a close family and he is very proud of his roots. His parents were always big fans of the arts and they passed that love on to Tunde.

2. He’s Also a Musician

Lots of people are mainly familiar with Tunde for his work as an actor, but he has also had a very successful career as a musician – both as a solo artist and a member of a group. No matter what else he does, music will always be one of Tunde’s favorite forms of self-expression.

3. He’s a Husband and Father

Tunde has always been a pretty private person so there isn’t a lot of information online about his personal life. However, we do know that he is married to French cartoonist Domitille Collardey and the couple has one child together. Domitille is currently the art director at Bentobox in New York City.

4. He’s a Cartoonist

I wasn’t joking when I said that Tunde is an all-around artist. On top of everything else he does, he is also a cartoonist. In an interview with Beehive Books, Tunde said, “All through grade school, I’d always done comics. I thought my path was that I’d be a cartoonist, or work for a comics company, Marvel or DC or whatever. And then when I got into high school, I found out about independent comics and zines, so I realized I could make my own thing and self-publish it. So I was completely on the path of becoming what at that point you’d call an indie cartoonist.”

5. He’s Not Really Into Social Media

Those who like to follow their favorite stars on social media will probably be somewhat disappointed to know that Tunde isn’t really a heavy social media user. Although he has a significant following on Instagram, he doesn’t post very often and when he does his content is typically centered around his work.

6. He Has Lots of Behind-the-Scenes Experience

Acting isn’t the only part of the storytelling process that Tunde is interested in. He has also stepped behind the camera on several occasions as a writer, director, and composer. Although it’s been a while since he’s done anything behind the scenes, I have a feeling he isn’t finished yet.

7. He is A Fan of Comic Books

Tunde has a nerdy side and he isn’t afraid to admit that. He grew up loving comic books and he has continued to enjoy them into adulthood. In fact, he has even referred to himself as a “snob” when it comes to comics. Needless to say, if you want to have a comic book discussion with him you better make sure that you know your stuff.

8. He Went to NYU

Although it’s unclear whether Tunde has had any kind of formal acting training, we do know that he is very educated in the arts. He attended New York University where he started studying film with the plan to become a director. However, he eventually decided to switch to animation.

9. He’s a Voice Actor

Singing isn’t the only thing that Tunde uses his vocal abilities for. He has also done a good amount of voice acting over the years. All of the millennials out there will be excited to know that one of Tunde’s first professional acting credits was in the popular animated MTV series Celebrity Deathmatch.

10. He Was in an Episode of Portlandia

Tunde’s acting career is a great example of the old adage quality over quantity. He has been a part of several well-known projects including the TV series Portlandia. Even though he was only in one episode of the show, it was still a great experience in his career.
