Jacob Rees-Mogg, 52, has served as the MP for North East Somerset since 2010 and currently holds the position of Leader of the House of Commons. In recent days, footage has emerged of Mr Rees-Mogg giving a speech at this year’s Christmas party for the Institute of Economic Affairs, mocking the alleged Christmas party at Downing Street on December 18, 2020.

The 2020 Downing Street knees-up reportedly happened when the UK was under severe coronavirus restrictions, which banned social gatherings and mixing of households.

The Leader of the House of Commons is due to answer questions from MPs later today.

But, how much is Jacob Rees-Mogg worth?

According to Spear’s Wealth Management, as of 2019, Mr Rees-Mogg’s net worth is “well over £100 million”.

This is likely to include his wife’s estimated expected inheritance.

Mr Rees-Mogg is married to Helena de Chair, the daughter of the poet and politician Somerset de Chair.

The couple lives with their six children in a 17th-century Grade II-listed Manor House in West Harptree.

At the time, his father invested in shares in the now-defunct General Electric Company (GEC), on his behalf.

After prep school, Mr Rees-Mogg entered Eton College, before studying History at Trinity College, Oxford.

He graduated with an upper second-class honours degree in 1991.

While at Oxford, he became president of the Oxford University Conservative Association.

Upon graduating from Oxford in 1991, Mr Rees-Mogg worked for the Rothschild investment bank before relocating to Hong ring in 1993 where he joined Lloyd George Management.

He first entered into politics at the 1997 general election aged 27.

He was selected as the Conservative party candidate for Central Fife which was traditionally a Scottish Labour seat.

However, no new Conservative MPs were elected in Scotland that year and therefore lost all of its seats.

By 2007, Mr Rees-Mogg left the company with a number of colleagues and set up their own fund management firm, Somerset Capital Management.

He was elected as the MP for North East Somerset in 2010, at which time he stepped down from his position as chief executive of Somerset Capital Management.

However, he continues to receive income in his capacity as a partner of the business.

Somerset Capital Management is managed via subsidiaries in the tax havens of the Cayman Islands and Singapore, with Mr Rees-Mogg defending offshore tax havens.

In 2018, Mr Rees-Mogg went on to open an investment fund in Dublin.

Most recently, in 2021, he was filmed on video joking about the Downing Street scandal in which a party was allegedly thrown during the UK national lockdown.

In video footage, Mr Rees-Mogg said: “I see we’re all here obeying regulations, aren’t we?

“I mean, this party is not going to be investigated by the police in a year’s time.”
