• The EFL will review its contract with Wembley when it comes up for renewal

The EFL’s contract with Wembley will be reviewed when the current deal expires in three years’ time due to unhappiness at their treatment by the national stadium.

As Mail Sport revealed last week the EFL are annoyed at being forced to bring forward the Carabao Cup final kick-off from 4:30pm to 3pm for this month’s meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool, with many on the Board feeling that Wembley should have given them more support in their arguments with the Metropolitan Police.

The EFL have staged five finals-a-year at Wembley for the last 17 years without experiencing significant crowd trouble, but with the contract expiring in 2027 alternative venues could be considered in future.

As well as the kick-off issue the EFL are also irked at being forced to split the divisional play-off finals over two weekends due to Wembley being used for other events.

Play-off finals and the Carabao Cup final were staged at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff whilst Wembley was being rebuilt between 2000 and 2007, while Old Trafford hosted the League One and League Two finals in 2011 due to a clash with the Champions League final.

The EFL said that the matter has yet to be discussed.

Rival bidders for Everton are convinced that prospective new owners 777Partners are loading fresh debt onto the club in an attempt to pressure the Premier League into approving their takeover.

As revealed by Mail Sport 777 are lending Everton another £30million this month taking the club’s total debt above £500m, which could make them less attractive to the other American investment groups who are monitoring the situation with a view to submitting an alternative offer.

A lack of other buyers would present problems for the Premier League if they reject 777’s bid and could leave Everton facing administration.

Everton and 777 insist they are working together with 777 to run the club and are hopeful the takeover will be approved this month.

Newcastle’s two major sponsors Adidas and Sela are joining forces in a bid to make them the most popular club in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid all have bigger fan-bases than Newcastle in Saudi despite the club being owned by the country’s Public Investment Fund, who have clear ambitions to overhaul the European superpowers.

Adidas, whose kit deal with Newcastle begins next season, have signed a strategic partnership with the club’s shirt sponsors Sela which will see them work together on staging live events for fans in Saudi and promote further investment in football in the Kingdom.

Nottingham Forest’s Evangelos Marinakis criticised comments made by Richard Masters

The Premier League avoided potential awkwardness by failing to send a delegate to the first day of a diversity conference staged by Nottingham Forest this week, which owner Evangelos Marinakis used to criticise chief executive Richard Masters for making “careless and not appropriate” comments about them being a small club.

The Premier League did attend the second day of the conference run jointly by Forest and Harvard University yesterday however, which was was focussed on issues relating to gender in football.
