Go Compare advert star Wynne Evans takes on a week-long juice cleanse in a bid to lose weight after being inspired by Carol Vorderman

Go Compare advert star Wynne Evans has given up eating solid food for a week in a bid to lose weight.

The opera singer, 51, has been on a health kick after his weight crept up to 22 stone and is now taking extreme measures by sticking to a special diet of fruit and vegetable smoothies four times a day.

While he may be missing out on hot meals, TV’s Gio Compario will be in balmy surroundings after checking into Juice Master Retreat in Portugal, where a week’s stay costs up to £1,150.

While at the health farm he will start each day at 6am with meditation, then yoga, circuit training and a walk around the grounds of the country retreat.

Evans has already lost four stone after vowing to get mentally and physically fit but admitted he’s ‘hit a plateau’ and hopes this will kickstart the process.

Evans told the listeners of his morning show on Radio Wales: ‘I’ve cancelled my holidays to go and see my nephew and decided to go on a health retreat instead.

‘You just drink juice for a week – it makes you more healthy.

‘I could be well buffed by the time I get back. People will be going: “Who’s that Adonis that’s walked in the building?”

‘I’ll be like: “Stand back ladies it’s only Wynne Evans – nothing to see here.”‘

Welsh tenor Evans, from Cardiff, revealed he got the idea from Carol Vorderman who also has a show on BBC Wales.

The Countdown star, 62,  was last at the retreat in January, spending a week  Alison Hammond where they danced alongside the likes of Rob Rinder, Carol Vorderman, Denise Welch, Alex Scott and Jason himself.

He said: ‘Vorders went on it and she looks good, not that I’d want to look like her if you know what I mean. I’ll let you know how it goes, I’m looking forward to it.’

Documenting his stay on Instagram, Evans shared a snap of the activity board and penned: ‘Loving day two @juicemasterretreats it’s utterly brilliant. I’m doing as many classes as possible. Meeting like minded people and starting to feel full of energy.’
