Hamilton’s decision to retire was not solely due to the physical strain but also stemmed from her desire to be able to make plans and ensure her availability, a common challenge for actors who often have to juggle multiple commitments. She confided in her agent about her health issues while preparing for the third season of “Resident Alien,” expressing her doubts about being able to commit to the project due to her hip pain.

Her agent, however, did not take her concerns seriously at the time, leading to a situation where Hamilton was offered a role in “Stranger Things” just two weeks later without her agent consulting her.

Reflecting on her past roles, Hamilton mentioned that filming “Terminator: Dark Fate” was both the greatest and worst time of her life, describing it as akin to a triathlon with constant physical demands. She also shared her exhaustion after the filming, which led her to read 40 books to rest her mind and body. Hamilton expressed her eagerness to explore diverse roles that allow her to not be the military person she often portrays, highlighting her desire to bring a different aspect of herself to her work.

Despite her initial contemplation of retirement, Hamilton was open to coming out of retirement for “Stranger Things,” even if she had actually quit before that. She views her involvement in the show as an opportunity to engage with a new audience and believes that her fan base from “The Terminator” will continue to support her work. Hamilton also mentioned her practice of not watching “Stranger Things” or her own show, “Resident Alien,” while she is involved in them, to maintain an objective perspective.
