Marks and Spencer has announced that this week it will introduce new items to its famous Percy Pig range. The retailer is also launching what it calls “magic” mushrooms, enriched with vitamin B6 and vitamin D.

Vitamin D keeps your immune system healthy, regulates the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body, and decreases the risk of obesity.

As well as containing essential vitamins, mushrooms are high in protein.

M&S has reported that “mushrooms are having a bit of a moment”, with sales of the vegetable consistently up 40 percent since the first national lockdown in March last year.

The food retailer’s Vegetable Buyer, Anna Peppitt, said: “We are super excited about this launch.

“We were the first retailer to launch a Vitamin D enriched mushroom back in 2015, and we have been working with our long-term M&S mushroom supplier, Monaghan Mushrooms to make these even more nutritious,” she added.

“We’ve seen a strong trend towards customers increasing their fruit and veg intake over lockdown, and looking to help support immune health for themselves and their families, so this is a great addition to our fortified range.”

The vitamin enriched mushrooms are not the only new product in M&S stores this week.

M&S has just launched a new limited-edition Percy Pig cuddly toy, just in time for Easter.

The Easter Bunny Percy Pig toy, which sees the much-loved pink creature with added bunny ears, hits shelves this week.

This Easter edition comes after the success of M&S’s first Percy Pig toy last year, which launched before Christmas and sold over 10,000 toys in just one day.

Also available in the Percy Pig Easter range is a whopping one-kilogram glass jar of Percy Pig and rabbit-shaped sweets, costing £15.

M&S has a selection of Percy biscuits too, which come in a pink Percy Pig tin with fluffy bunny ears attached to the top of the tin, costing £5.
