Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to have his contract terminated by Manchester United following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

The 37-year-old claimed he feels ‘betrayed’ by the club while also declaring he has no ‘respect’ for boss Erik ten Hag.

He also accused the Glazer family of not caring about the Red Devils, as he blasted that United won’t be competing at the top for a number of years.

United issued a statement on the Portugal international on Monday where they insisted they will ‘consider its response’ in due course.

And according to SunSport, United are now ready to rip up his deal at Old Trafford, which expires at the end of the season.

They state he is unlikely to ever don the United jersey again, with the striker now on international with Portugal for the World Cup in Qatar.

The news outlet suggests that Ten Hag has been left furious by Ronaldo‘s actions where he is exploring legal options with club chiefs.

This could see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner become a free agent while out in the Middle East.

Ronaldo’s former teammate Rio Ferdinand has stated his interview to TalkTV was ‘manufactured’ for him to leave the club.

And it is a view shared by The Sun’s Neil Custis, who expanded more on the player’s future when speaking on the Sports Breakfast.

Custis said: “This is the bizarre thing, he’s saying that people are forcing him out of the club when he’s wanted to get out of the club for ages now.

“He wanted to be out of the club at the end of last season when they didn’t get Champions League football.

“And he has returned to a very different club to the one that he left, there has been a drop in standards among players, there’s not the same intensity there, there’s not the same drive, there’s not the same to will to win.

“He came back to a club that was very different to the one he left, he left one that was second only to Barcelona in Europe.

“And now it’s a club that struggles to even qualify for the Champions League so I can see his frustration and understand his frustration because he is a winner – he’s a serial winner.

“And he’s at a club that just doesn’t win anymore, although I do believe they are back on the right track with Erik ten Hag.

“And I do believe that he has got a drive and togetherness amongst the players and this is affecting it.

“They had a brilliant win against Tottenham at home and straight away it’s all Ronaldo refusing to come on and walking down the tunnel before the end.

“[Sunday’s] last minute winner against Fulham, can anyone remember that goal by a great up and coming player [Alejandro] Garnacho?

“We can’t, we don’t remember as it was talked about for about half an hour because this came out.

“Ten Hag doesn’t want these things affecting what he’s trying to do, and I think what he’s doing is good and he can’t be sidetracked by all this.

“So they have to just rip up the contract and I would say it within days, never mind a week or wait until after the World Cup, they should just say, ‘we’ve terminated the contract’ and that’s that.”
