Currently, the murder trial of disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh is underway at the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro.

Murdaugh’s wife and son were found shot to death on the family’s Moselle property in Islandton in June 2021.

Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, the accused, Alex Murdaugh, has entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of murder, as well as two counts of possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the tragic and senseless deaths of his loved one and son.

He is also facing 99 charges related to alleged financial crimes in addition to the murder charge.

During the double murder trial on Thursday, testimony revealed that Murdaugh and a friend had spent just a few minutes planning to kill the attorney.

After the tragic deaths of his wife and another son due to gun violence, his son was supposed to receive a multi-million dollar life insurance policy.

A state agent testified during the trial that Murdaugh’s head was only grazed by a shot fired by a former client turned drug dealer.

In order to collect his $10 million life insurance policy, which was ruined by the failed attempt on his life, he planned to make his death look like a robbery or revenge killing.

When Was Alex Murdaugh Arrested For Killing His Wife Maggie And Kids?

Alex Murdaugh was arrested in July 2022 on two counts of murder and two counts of weapon possession during the commission of a violent crime.

The charges connected to the deaths of his wife, Maggie and son Paul, following an indictment by the Colleton County Grand Jury.

The indictment alleges that Alex Murdaugh utilized a rifle to shoot his wife and a shotgun to shoot his son, leading to the tragic deaths.

The trial commenced on January 25th, 2023, at the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro, South Carolina.
