President Joe Biden called Donald Trump an ‘existential threat’ who will ‘try to undo everything we’ve done’ as he courted wealthy donors for his re-election bid.

Speaking to supporters in New York City, the president blamed Trump for the Republican chaos on Capitol Hill after GOP lawmakers killed a deal on border security and tanked an effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Republicans are ‘walking away because they’ve got Donald Trump calling and threatening them,’ Biden said on Wednesday afternoon.

‘There is one existential threat: it’s Donald Trump,’ he added. ‘He’ll try to undo everything we’ve done. Make no mistake.’

He then asked for their support: ‘We can’t let that happen.’

Biden was in New York City to attend a trio of fundraisers for his re-election campaign.

His comments came as the bipartisan border security bill officially fell apart in the Senate after conservative Republicans trashed the long-negotiated compromise legislation.

They argue the bill didn’t go far enough to secure the border. Trump, who is Biden’s likely competition in November’s election, had been lobbying against it, calling it a ‘death wish’ for the Republican Party.

Both sides are trying to turn the issue into election year fodder.

Biden originally supported the bill to try and take the border issue off the table as he gears up for the 2024 general election. But Trump wanted to keep the issue alive so he can hammer Biden on it.

But now Biden is hammering the former president and his Republicans on their failure to support the legislation that was negotiated with the guidance of GOP leaders.

Republicans’ efforts to use the border against Biden are rapidly turning into a farce and the president is moving to hit the GOP on an issue that has dogged his administration since day one.

On Tuesday, Biden said congressional Republicans were ‘caving’ to Trump on the issue and urged them to ‘show some spine’ by backing a border security deal.

With a record number of migrants crossing the border, Biden has struggled to deal with the issue. Even some of his Democrats were pushing him to do more.

But now Republicans have handed him a way to flip the switch.

‘I’ll be taking this issue to the country, and the voters are going to know that it’s not just a moment — just at the moment we were going to secure the border and fund these other programs, Trump and the MAGA Republicans said no because they’re afraid of Donald Trump,’ Biden said Tuesday at the White House.

‘Every day between now and November,’ he added, ‘the American people are going to know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends.’

The $118 billion deal, backed by the White House, included $14 billion in aid to Israel, $60 billion to Ukraine and also $20 billion for securing the southern border amid a massive increase in illegal migration.

Shortly after it was released, many Republicans promptly rejected it, making it the victim of election-year politics.

Meanwhile, Speaker Mike Johnson attempted a stand-alone vote on $17 billion in aide to Israel but it failed on the House floor after Democrats joined hardline Republicans to tank the measure.

And, only minutes before, Republicans tanked a vote on articles of impeachment for Secretary Mayorkas, dealing Johnson an embarrassing blow.

After weeks of buildup a resolution to impeach Mayorkas failed Tuesday night when Democrats pulled off an upset by wheeling in Texas Democrat Al Green, who had just had surgery.

The move seemingly caught Republicans by surprise.

‘Their floor director was literally telling our floor director that Al was not going to be here,’ Republican Whip Tom Emmer told DailyMail.com.

Republicans were then down one vote – with Majority Leader Steve Scalise out to recover from cancer treatment – and the resolution failed.

Biden seem flabbergasted by the House Republicans.

‘Never thought I’d see something like I’m seeing now,’ he told donors on Wednesday.
