Man United ‘are not fluid at all’ amid Erik ten Hag’s slow start – and they NEED a left back and a central midfielder this week, says Gary Neville… as he warns they will LOSE at Arsenal if nothing changes

  • The ex-United star warned that his side will lose to Arsenal if they don’t improve

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has slammed his side for their slow start to the season and warned that the Red Devils will lose to Arsenal if nothing changes.

Erik ten Hag’s side have had a fairly inconsistent start to the season, with a narrow 1-0 win over Wolves overshadowed by a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.

Their latest match saw United come from two goals down to beat Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on the weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League’s YouTube channel on ‘The Gary Neville Podcast’, Neville criticised his former team for being ‘not fluid’.

He said: ‘You always feel under Ten Hag, they’re not fluid at all at this stage of the season. They’re always scruffy the first few weeks.

‘You think about the Wolves game where Wolves were really unlucky not to get the victory. Nottingham Forest will feel really hard done by too. They also get beat at Tottenham.’

He continued to look forward to Man United’s clash with Arsenal this week, sending a warning to his former team.

‘They’ve got a match against Arsenal, which will be really interesting because Arsenal slipped up (against ten-man Fulham).

‘United, it isn’t quite going for them yet. It isn’t quite happening… but they’ve put six points on the board. I think that somehow, that’s quite important.

‘Two tough away games with Tottenham and now Arsenal. If they hadn’t won their home games they’d be under pressure.’

The former full-back continued to urge Man United to spend in the transfer window as he highlighted two positions for Ten Hag to strengthen before Friday’s deadline.

‘I think they have to try to do something in the transfer market this week,’ Neville continued. ‘They need to get players out.

‘Some clubs get players out really well but United don’t tend to do that.

‘They’ve got players in better this summer. There’s no doubt they want another player or two. A left-back and central midfield player. I think they need that or else they’ll be put under real pressure.’

Neville finalised by sending a warning shot to his former side, telling them that they must raise their performance levels if they are to beat Arsenal this weekend.

He concluded: ‘Arsenal are expected to challenge for the league. It’s a big test for United. Their performances so far have been below par.

‘If you’re below par at the Emirates, you’ll be beaten. United need to raise their game.’
