Marcelo Bielsa had flown into England on Thursday night to hold talks with the Merseyside outfit about succeeding Lampard.

But Everton have instead opted to bring in Dyche with Bielsa unwilling to take charge.

It will be his first job since being axed by Burnley in April 2022 where the Clarets were embroiled in a relegation battle.

And Dyche, who was championed by Stuart Pearce earlier in the week, will again be involved in a fight to stay in the Premier League with Everton sitting in 19th spot.

His first game at the helm will be against table-toppers Arsenal at the start of February.

Dyche then will take his side to rivals Liverpool on February 13.

talkSPORT’s Jim White has stated that Everton turned to Dyche with Bielsa not ready to commit to the club.

The 67-year-old has been out of work since Leeds relieved him of his duties at Elland Road in February 2022.

Speaking on the Breakfast Show, White said: “Obviously this is moving quickly, it appears that Marcelo Bielsa was here.

“It appears he had a good chat with Farhad Moshiri [Everton’s majority shareholder].

“But my understanding is that Bielsa was not ready to commit at this stage.

“So that opened the door to the other candidate, and the other candidate was Sean Dyche.

“And now we know that Moshiri, who is still in London and hasn’t gone back to Monaco we understand, is now in conversation with Sean Dyche’s representatives.

“So it should be a matter of time and Dyche is now very much in the box seat.”

Dyche’s first task as Everton manager will be dealing with the Anthony Gordon saga, who has been heavily linked with a switch to Newcastle.

The winger has missed training three times this week, though he was back at Finch Farm on Friday.
