She attended school before getting a degree in English from Sussex University. She did her master’s in Critical Theory earning a Ph.D. in Lawrence, Nietzsche, Freud, and Feminism.
The professor has also published several books, including the influential Critical Desire: Psychoanalysis, the Literary Subject, The Erotic Thriller in Contemporary Cinema.
She also writes a regular column in the British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound magazine. Sometimes she appears on the radio and podcasts that include Woman’s Hour.
