Amy Word is a school board member at Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, EVSC in Evansville, Indiana who was arrested on the early morning of Saturday, July 30. The exact reasons for her arrest have not yet been made public.
The 47-year-old’s charge is listed as controlled substance-common nuisance-maintaining. She is currently being held at Vanderburgh County Jail and no further comment about her arrest has been released by the Evansville Police Department.
Amy, a famous restauranteur from Evansville, was elected to the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation board in 2020. She was a frontrunner for the post and won one of the two seats for district 3 by about 5000 votes.
Word had maintained a very respectable and reputed image in Evansville up until now. She was, in fact, a favorite potential mayoral candidate according to Courier & Press.
