Manchester City and Chelsea will go head-to-head in a mouthwatering all-English Champions League final on Saturday night.

It’s the second time in just three years that the final has been contested by two English sides, after Liverpool saw off Tottenham in 2019, and it will come just three days after Premier League rivals Manchester United lost to Villarreal in the Europa League final

City – who emphatically defeated Paris Saint-Germain to reach the final – can make history by claiming a first-ever Champions League title, which would complete the treble in a stunning season, having already won the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Chelsea put in a phenomenal performance to see off Real Madrid en route to the final. But manager Thomas Tuchel comes into the clash under pressure, having lost to Leicester in the final of the FA Cup, while scraping into the top-four after the Foxes failed to take advantage of the Blues’ final-day defeat to Aston Villa.

With the final now quickly approaching, Sportsmail takes you through the all-important information.

When is the Champions League final?

The final of the 2020-21 Champions League will be played on Saturday, May 29.

The eagerly-anticipated match will start at 8pm BST, as was the case with all four of the semi-finals.

Where is the final being played?

The Champions League final was initially scheduled to take place at Attaturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.

However, with the final contested by two Premier League clubs and Turkey being on the UK government’s “red list” for travel, meaning English fans would be banned from attending, it was moved to Portugal.

There had been significant discussions to hold the final to Wembley, but talks collapsed with the UK government unwilling to allow quarantine exemptions for the 2000-plus VIPs, staff and media that would have been in attendance.

Instead, the final will be played at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao, which has a capacity of 50,000.

And UEFA earlier in the week confirmed that a total of 16,500 fans will be allowed to watch the final live, which equates to 33 per cent of the stadium’s capacity.

Both City and Chelsea will be given 6,000 tickets each, with spectators having to prove a negative Covid-19 test before entry.

How to watch the Champions League final

As has been the case throughout the tournament in its entirety, the match will be broadcast live on BT Sport.

However, unlike previous fixtures, BT have confirmed that the Champions League final will be available to watch for free.

It will be available to watch on their website, and they will also stream the match for free on their YouTube channel.

The game will also be available on the BT Sport app for all small screen and large-screen devices, which ranges from smart TVs and games consoles to tablets and mobile phones.

Sportsmail will also be running a live blog, so you can keep up-to-date with us.

Routes to the final

 Manchester City

Group finish: 1st

Last-16: 4-0 agg vs B. Monchengladbach

Quarter-finals: 4-2 agg vs B. Dortmund

Semi-finals: 4-1 agg vs PSG

Chelsea

 Group finish: 1st

Last-16: 3-0 agg vs Atletico Madrid

Quarter-finals: 2-1 agg vs Porto

Semi-finals: 3-1 agg vs Real Madrid

Both Manchester City and Chelsea have enjoyed stunning campaigns en route to the Champions League final, scoring 25 and 22 goals respectively, while conceding just four apiece.

City were utterly dominant in the group stages, winning five matches from six, dropping points only in a draw away at Porto in their penultimate fixture.

Their progression through the knockout stages has been equally impressive, beating a helpless Borussia Monchengladbach in the round of 16, before battling past Borussia Dortmund in a classic quarter-final clash.

There was a slight moment of doubt in the second-leg against Dortmund, as a 15th-minute Jude Bellingham strike gave the German’s the upper hand, but second-half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden sealed a spot in the semi-finals in the end.

Paris Saint-Germain, led by Mauricio Pochettino, were gunning for a spot in the final, but they were comprehensively outclassed by a quite sublime City, who reached the last-two for the first time in their history.

As for Chelsea, their group stages – which were played under Frank Lampard – were also impressive, with four wins and two draws from six.

Tuchel then took over for the knockout stages, and Chelsea have never really looked in danger of going out.

They beat Porto 2-1 on aggregate in the round of 16, with their opponent’s sole goal coming as a 93rd-minute consolation strike in the second leg.

Then against Real Madrid in the semi-finals, they earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw in Madrid, before somewhat easing past the European giants 2-0 in the second leg.

Team news

Guardiola will have plenty of depth to pick from on Saturday night, with no new injury concerns coming following their final Premier League encounter against Everton on Sunday.

There were some worries over the fitness of Ilkay Gundogan after he was forced off with injury against Brighton the match prior, but he has since quashed any concern.

It will be the last-ever game in a City shirt for legendary forward Sergio Aguero, who scored twice against Everton in a memorable Premier League send-off, but it’s likely he will make his impact off the bench – if at all.

Chelsea come into the clash with greater fitness concerns, however, with two influential players battling to be fit.

N’Golo Kante was left out of Chelsea’s final-day defeat to Aston Villa having been taken off against Leicester in their prior fixture, and he’s once again a doubt.

However, Tuchel has confirmed he is hoping the French midfielder will play, and jokingly stated he would risk him even if not fully fit.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was forced to come off against Villa after colliding with the post, but Tuchel has been pleased by his subsequent improvement.

Should he lose the battle against time, however, Kepa Arrizabalaga will deputise.

Manchester United vs Villarreal: The odds

With City on course for a treble, it comes as no surprise that they are the favourites to win the Champions League.

Guardiola’s side are favoured at 4/11 to lift the trophy, while Chelea are the underdogs at 15/8.

Meanwhile, City are at 17/20 to win inside 90 minutes, while Chelsea are at 17/5.
