San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffery made history on Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite trailing 16-7 at halftime, McCaffery’s touchdown late in the second quarter broke the record for consecutive games with a scrimmage touchdown with 16.

McCaffery passed OJ Simpson and John Riggins who each had 15.

However, there is one more record that the 27-year-old could break should this streak continue. The all-time record for consecutive games with a touchdown of any kind belongs to Colts legend Lenny Moore with 17.

McCaffery was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2017 as the eighth overall pick. In six seasons with the Panthers, McCaffery collected 7,272 scrimmage yards and 50 scrimmage touchdowns.

In 2022, McCaffery was traded to the 49ers and has led San Francisco in rushing yards since. McCaffery also leads the NFL rush yards and touchdowns this season.

So far in his career, McCaffery has two Pro Bowl selections from 2019 and 2022. He also made First-team All-Pro in 2019 and a Second-team in 2018.

Despite closing the gap late in the game, the 49ers lost 22-17 on Monday. Although this is San Francisco’s second straight loss, they still hold a winning record, 5-2. The 49ers remain on top of the NFC West ahead of their game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
