• Dwain Chambers will race in the UK’s Athletics Indoor Championships
  • The 45-year-old won the last of his indoor titles back in 2012
  • Chambers received a two-year doping ban 20 years ago

Former world 100metres medallist Dwain Chambers will race at next month’s UK Athletics Indoor Championships – at the age of 45.

The father of three, who received a two-year doping ban 20 years ago, broke the over-45s world record for 60m earlier this month when he clocked 6.81sec at Lee Valley.

Chambers described himself as ‘Benjamin Button’ after that feat and he will now take on sprinters half his age in Birmingham after entering the UKA Indoor Championships for the first time in four years.

The sprinter is still the 60m British record holder despite winning the last of his five national indoor titles in 2012.

He also won the world indoor title in 2010, but his finest achievement was his world 100m bronze in Seville in 1999 before he tested positive for anabolic steroid THG in 2003.

Chambers last represented Great Britain internationally 10 years ago but he has continued to race despite becoming a coach at his own academy at Lee Valley.

He entered the outdoor UKA Championships in 2021 and 2022, although he failed to get through the 100m heats.

In Birmingham, Chambers could meet a fellow former 60m world champion in Richard Kilty, as well as reigning British champion Reece Prescod and Eugene Amo-Dadzie, who was a world 100m semi-finalist last year.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, 35, has also entered the event fresh from his appearance as Nitro on the BBC’s remake of Gladiators.
