Aaron Rodgers has opened up about his ‘whirlwind’ move to the New York Jets as his teammates are embracing the pressure of pushing to a possible Super Bowl title.

Rodgers, the four-time MVP and Super Bowl XLV winner, will be tasked with leading a talented – but relatively young – Jets team into battle with the pressure (both internally and externally) higher than it may have ever been before.

In the first episode of ‘One Jets Drive’, the team’s series taking a peek into their training camp, Rodgers gives a motivational speech to his new teammates: ‘Hey, we got one goal and that’s winning a championship this year so everything we do from this point until February is intentional,’ the former MVP says.

Rodgers later recalled, ‘The last few months have been a whirlwind for sure. After I declared I wanted to play for the Jets, there was a long waiting period so I was just working out, hanging out, waiting for things to happen. And once it happened, it went quick.’

He also knows that his move will immediately boost the Jets’ expectations: ‘There is a lot of noise around us – obviously my trade was a big story in the offseason. A lot of people talking about the New York Jets which is exciting, that’s how you want it. You want the expectations to be as high as possible.’

These New York Jets may be the highest potential squad the franchise has fielded since 2010 – when they made a surprise run to the AFC Championship game.

In the 2022 season, they seemed just one piece short from making the playoffs. Their offseason acquisition of Rodgers seems to have solved that, as many believe the Jets could go deep in January.

‘It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited,’ Rodgers admits. ‘There’s a lot of reasons for that but first and foremost there’s a lot to accomplish this year.

‘To be talked about as one of those teams, now we have to go out and put it together and do it for 17 regular season weeks and then do it in the playoffs.’

The veteran quarterback is just getting used to his new environment – having been seen shopping at boutiques in the Bowery, taking in Broadway shows, and attending Rangers hockey playoff games.

‘Everything is new – it’s like the first day of school when you’re the new kid from out of town,’ Rodgers says.

‘That was me a lot – we moved a lot growing up – and you have to make new friends, you have to meet a bunch of people, you also have to figure out exactly who you want to be.

‘And it’s exciting so definitely a lot of contemplation in the offseason – about my life, my career, what I want to be moving forward, who I want to be moving forward.’

As for his transition onto the field, Rodgers said that he’s looking to set the tone early for the upcoming campaign.

‘We want to start the season fast – we have a tough early schedule – two division games in the first four, luckily I think three of them are at home,’ he says.

‘But we have to start fast in the first quarter of the season… we have to find a way to get a little bit better every day.

‘I like our chances but we’re going to have a lot of fun, I can promise you that.’

Rodgers says that as his career winds down, he looks forward to re-assuring himself that he can still play at a high level and compete for titles.

‘As you get older you realize the only person you have to prove anything to is yourself so I’m just excited about setting high expectations for myself this year and then going out and proving I can live up to them.’
