Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a shock summer move to prise Ryan Gravenberch away from Bayern Munich after just a year.

The 20-year-old midfielder only joined the German giants last summer from Ajax in a deal rising to £21million.

But he has been limited to a bench role at the Allianz Arena having failed to establish himself as a starter under Julian Nagelsmann and now Thomas Tuchel.

From the Netherlands international’s 26 appearances this season, he has started just three games in all competitions – with just one of those coming in the Bundesliga.

Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Jamal Musiala have all been preferred instead, with Gravenberch’s future at the club now in question.

And according to Sky Germany, his situation has alerted Arsenal, who are claimed to be keeping tabs on the youngster.

It has been said that the Gunners could offer Gravenberch more game time, despite Mikel Arteta boasting Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Jorginho in midfield.

Though it is known that Arteta is desperate to bring in a new no.8 to compete with Xhaka, with West Ham’s Declan Rice another potential option.

Sky Germany also says that Gravenberch’s future at Bayern rests on Tuchel, who is keen to raise funds to bring in a marquee striker.

It’s not just Arsenal that have the player on their radar, with ex-Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique revealing the Reds have agreed a deal to sign him.

Gravenberch conceded earlier this month he may reluctantly be forced to depart should he continue to be left out of the line-up.

He told Ajax Showtime, per 90Min: “I had certainly hoped and also expected that I would play more at Bayern. It’s a shame for me, but I’m handling it well.

“In my career, I’ve actually never had a setback until this season. I was always a great talent and joined the Ajax first team at a young age.

“For me, this is the only season in which I’m having a hard time and have little time to play.

“As a player, you also get better from such experiences. I’m still very young and I’m glad I’m experiencing something like this now instead of later in my career.

“I am mentally strong and making even better steps in this situation because of this situation. This is how I try to turn this experience into something positive.”

He added: “I’d prefer to succeed at Bayern,. But if that doesn’t work out and I don’t get opportunities, then maybe I should look elsewhere.

“At the moment, however, I am not so concerned with that and I hope that I can change my situation at Bayern by training and playing well.”
