One person was killed and three others injured in a shooting in a shopping mall in El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday, adding to the hundreds of deaths so far in mass shootings across the country.
Deputy El Paso Police Chief Peter Pasillas stated during a press conference late Wednesday night that the gunshot was reported at the Cielo Vista Mall around 5:05 pm.
According to interim Police Chief Peter Pacillas, Cielo Vista Mall will remain closed until investigators are done with their investigation. Pacillas emphasized that the threat has passed.

Three minutes after the shooting was reported, off-duty police operating the mall’s security system reacted, and one of them arrested a suspect, Pacillas said.
According to Pacillas, the off-duty police officers who detained the man without using force were arrested at 5:08 pm.
The shooting occurred one week after the mass shooting at Walmart next door by a 24-year-old gunman.
There were 23 people killed in 2019 by a guy who targeted Hispanics on purpose and pleaded guilty to national hate crimes and firearms charges.
Cielo Vista Mall and Walmart are on opposite sides of the road.

2 Male Suspects Arrested After 1 Dead And 3 Injured At El Paso Mall
Even though the circumstances surrounding the incident were still unknown, the El Paso Police Department reported that two suspects had been brought into custody hours after the shots were fired.
The suspect was taken into custody by an off-duty Police officer without needing a weapon, but the Police chief did not disclose the capture of the second suspect.
Neither the names, ages, or descriptions of the victims nor the suspects were also immediately made public.
Jeffrey Downey praised the off-duty Police officer who picked up the first suspect, the agent in charge of the FBI El Paso Office.
We can only speculate how many more people would have died and could have been injured if the off-duty Police officer had not been around. So, he deserves the praise.
