The BBC has announced a last-minute schedule change for this evening’s running order of The One Show following the death of Hairy Bikers presenter Dave Myers.

His heartbroken co-star Si King revealed the news today as family, friends and colleagues paid emotional tributes to the beloved TV star, who announced he was receiving treatment for cancer in May 2022.

Si shared that his co-star died on Wednesday with his family and friends by his side.

Following the Hairy Bikers star’s death, the BBC said it will no longer air the Lenny Henry Exclusive Vote for the comedian’s funniest Red Nose Day moments tonight on The One Show.

Instead, the special segment will feature on the show’s Friday 1 March instalment, which airs at 7pm.

The rescheduling opens up room for a potential tribute slot to be paid to Dave following his passing.

The segment that was originally scheduled to pay homage to Sir Lenny will celebrate his life and work with an exclusive vote for his funniest Comic Relief moments.

Paying tribute to fellow Hairy Biker Dave, Si said in a statement: ‘Hi everyone, I’m afraid I bear some sad news.

‘Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.

‘Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home.

‘All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

‘Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment.

‘My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.

‘I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.’

2024 also marks the final year that Sir Lenny will host Comic Relief, having done so almost every year since its inception having co-founded the charity with Richard Curtis back in 1985.

Hairy Bikers Dave and Si first met one another through working in the film industry – Dave as a make-up artist and Si as a location director – and immediately formed a strong friendship over their love of both food and motorbikes.

Throughout their career, the duo built up a reputation as the friendly faces of TV cooking, with 31 separate projects since they first debuted on the BBC in 2006.

Dave leaves behind his heartbroken wife Liliana Orzac and her two children Izabelle and Sergiu, who supported him throughout his illness.

Dave and Liliana kept their personal life incredibly private after they married each other back in 2011 at the star’s hometown in Barrow, Cumbria.

Speaking about the support he had received from his wife while battling cancer, Dave said in December: ‘A lot of the credit has to also go to my wife, she’s been there through it all with me from the start.

‘It’s absolutely vital and I feel really sad for those people who have to go through it on their own.’
