If you’re a fan of McDonald’s, the only thing better than tucking into a Big Mac or nuggets is getting them free, and now diners can do just that thanks to the chain’s new rewards scheme.

Launching today as a pilot in 10 outlets in the North of England, MyMcDonald’s Rewards will award customers with 100 points for every £1 they spend, or one point per penny, which they can then redeem against their favourites.

You’ll need to pick up a minimum of 1,500 – or spend £15 – to get a freebie, starting with small fries or a coffee, while 2,500 points will earn you a treat such as a Double Cheeseburger or Vegetable Deluxe.

Those with 4,000 points can choose from favourites including Chicken McNuggets or a Big Mac.

The scheme, which customers can access via the McDonald’s app, will roll out to 65 further branches by the end of this month, and will be available nationally by the end of the year if successful.

Customers can also opt to have their points converted to a cash donation to BBC Children in Need.

To collect points, customers will need to download the MyMcDonald’s and opt into the scheme, and their rewards will be applied automatically if they order and pay through the app.

They can also get a one-time code from the app to use at the Drive Thru, kiosk or counter to earn points, and it’s also valid on McDelivery orders through the app.

Michelle Graham-Clare, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s UK and Ireland said: ‘We’re incredibly excited to trial the MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme in the UK.

‘We can’t wait to hear what our customers in the North West make of the scheme and hope to be able to roll it out further later this year.’

It comes after McDonald’s delighted fans by launching four new limited edition items on its menu across the UK last week.

The fast food chain will be selling the BBQ bacon stack burger, which is made of two beef patties, two slices of pepper jack cheese and bacon topped off with tomato, for £4.79.

Meanwhile foodies will also rejoice the return of old favourites including mozzarella dippers and Aero McFlurries.

But foodies should be quick if they want to get their hands on the items – the snacks will only be available for a limited six-week run.

The ice cream treat, which features chunks of the chocolate bar swirled through it, is coming back after two years and will come in two flavours – chocolate and mint.

It will be available for diners in both standard size for £1.49 or a mini size for 99p.

Meanwhile mozzarella dippers will be available in a box of three for £1.89 or nine for £5.09.

The gooey cheese sticks were last on the menu for a limited run in February 2021.

Unfortunately, the changeover means other limited edition items will be removed from the menu, including the bacon clubhouse double and cheese and herb melts.

Other items to be removed from the menu include the chicken deluxe meal and the Galaxy chocolate McFlurry and the Galaxy caramel McFlurry.
