Donald Glover has been promoting “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” as a twist on the film version, and that’s just how he wants it to be. “It’s definitely going to be different for a lot of people, which I think is good,” he told Entertainment Weekly. The actor knows people can always return to the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie version, but they hope to provide something fresh to the curious people checking out their 1st season. “People are definitely going to be shocked. I just know how much people love the other one, so if everybody’s like, ‘Eh,’ we didn’t do a good job.”

Glover hastened to add that he hoped audiences like the action series, which releases on Prime Video on February 2. He also admitted he wasn’t enamored by the original film, which influenced him to make this updated take on the tale. His version tackles relatable problems many people face — loneliness and trust. Since John and Jane are spies, lying comes to them much more quickly than telling the truth, so being confronted with real emotions is quite scary for them. It’ll be interesting to see how romance and spy work go hand-in-hand.
