Married Army major who allegedly had sex with two women in the officer’s mess at his regiment’s summer ball while his wife was sleeping in the same building is suspended

An army major has been suspended after allegedly having sex with two women in the officers’ mess while his wife was asleep in a bedroom in the same building.

Major Duncan Wiggins, 34, from the Queen’s Dragoon Guards, is said to have seduced the women at a summer ball after his City lawyer wife went to bed, the Mail can reveal.

After Mrs Wiggins left, her husband supposedly chatted up two friends of a junior officer at Robertson Barracks in Norfolk.

They had been invited to the prestigious cavalry regiment’s formal occasion by a 2nd lieutenant who innocently introduced them to Major Wiggins.

The squadron commander, who has two young children with his wife, ordered gin and tonics for everyone. The Mail understands an investigation by top brass has found Major Wiggins had sex with one of the women in the Mess’s television room and with the other in a Mess bedroom.

Mrs Wiggins was unaware of her husband’s high jinks and reacted furiously when she found out.

Major Wiggins has been suspended pending disciplinary action and could be charged under rules introduced by the Defence Secretary. In a bid to clean up the Army after a series of misconduct scandals, Ben Wallace introduced the charge of unacceptable sexual behaviour.

The alleged frolicking in the Mess continued into the early hours of Sunday, July 2. In the morning, the women spilled the beans to the 2nd lieutenant.

The horrified subaltern informed the regiment’s adjutant, who in turn notified the QDG’s Commanding Officer. The CO immediately launched an investigation and suspended Major Wiggins, who faces an uphill struggle to save his career – and possibly his marriage.

A QDG source said: ‘As you can imagine, the subaltern’s jaw dropped when, the following morning, his female guests told them what had happened.

‘He was in a very awkward position. Major Wiggins’ activities with one of the women was in a public area of the Mess and could have been witnessed by any number of invitees to the summer ball.

‘Major Wiggins only went to a bedroom in the Mess to engage in consensual activities with the other woman.

‘In that situation, (the 2nd Lt) had to report his commander.

‘The CO is equally aghast. Everyone knows Major Wiggins is married with children so what he’s got up to, in front of everyone, and with his wife asleep in the same building, has shocked everyone.’

Under Mr Wallace’s tighter code of conduct, the Army must apply a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards unacceptable sexual behaviour.

Last night, an Army spokesman said: ‘We are aware of an alleged incident involving personnel at Robertson Barracks. As the matter is the subject of an internal investigation it would be inappropriate to comment further.’
