The community gathered this evening in honour of a woman and three children who were sadly killed at the weekend

Hundreds of people have gathered in the town of Killamarsh after a woman and three children were tragically killed.

Connie Gent, 11, Lacey Bennett, also 11, and Lacey’s brother John Paul Bennett 13, and Lacey and John’s mum Terri Harris were found dead at a property in Chandos Crescent on Sunday.

The devastating news has rocked the usually quiet town and family and friends have been left heartbroken.

To show their support and in memory of the victims, members of the local community decided to organise a candlelit vigil near to the scene.

Around 300 people are thought to have attended this evening with dozens of candles being lit in honour of the tragic victims.

Pastor David Taylor, co-organiser of tonight’s vigil told the community: “What do you say at a time like this? It is so difficult.

“I can’t give you any answers, I don’t have the answers.

“But each one of you is here to remember four people who are no longer with us. It is a day that we will all remember.

“Because this doesn’t happen in Killamarsh… but it has.

“And some of you know the family, some of you know the children. Some of you may have never seen them before. But you’re all here to show your respect. And on behalf of the family, I just say thankyou.”

Derbyshire Police said they were called to the home in Chandos Crescent at 7.26am on Sunday, September 19, to concerns for the safety of a man.

Police rushed to the scene and arrived four minutes later but sadly found the bodies of the four victims.

A 31-year-old from Killamarsh was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody on suspicion of the murders of Terri, Lacey, John Paul and Connie.

A team of detectives have been working through the night to understand the circumstances that led to their deaths and anyone with any information is urged to come forward.

Of particular interest is anyone who was in the Chandos Crescent area between 9.30pm on Saturday evening and 7.30am the following day and who may have information that would be helpful to the investigation.
