McKinlay captained the Palmerston North Boys’ High School premier team in 2018 and was named to the New Zealand secondary schools’ tournament team and the Junior Tall Blacks.

 

Who Is Jake Mckinley? Basketball Student Death in A Car Crash

A “well decorated” young basketball player for the Manawatu Jets, Jake McKinley, died in a car accident.

According to the team’s social media posts, Jake McKinlay was slain early Monday morning.

“It is with heavy hearts and enormous regret that we mourn the loss of a member of the Jets family, Jake McKinlay, who was tragically killed in a car accident this morning,” the message read.

There are no words to describe our grief and sadness for this outstanding young man who still had his entire life ahead of him. Our warmest condolences go out to Jake’s family and friends at this terrible time.

In the Horowhenua region, a car and a truck collided on State Highway 1 north of Taki, soon before 6 a.m. on Monday, killing one person.

McKinlay is believed to have been the victim; however, authorities have not confirmed this.

Darryl June, the general manager of the Manawatu Jets, said the team would issue an official statement on McKinlay’s death on Tuesday.

Jake Mckinley Age Details

Jake Mckinley was only 20 years old as of 2021.

In 2018, he made his NBA debut for the Jets, becoming one of only a few players while still in high school.

Tim McTamney, the Jets’ coach, coached McKinlay in high school and provided his first NBL opportunity.

McKinlay told Stuff after being re-signed in February that it was a terrific opportunity for him to grow as a player and contribute to the Jets’ success.

Manawatu Basketball also posted about McKinlay’s death on social media.

Jake Mckinley Family Details

Jake McKinley’s family has yet to be discovered, but they must be heartbroken by the loss of a family member.

In May of this year, Jake McKinlay was a member of the Manawatu Jets.

McKinlay is the second Manawat athlete to die in a traffic accident this month.
