A NY1 Emmy-Award winning journalist who recently ‘beat cancer’ revealed her pancreatic cancer is back and has taken a turn for the worse after returning to air in March. 

Ruschell Boone, a 47-year-old wife and mother of two, told Twitter on Thursday that her cancer has spread to her liver and she is now again undergoing chemotherapy treatment. 

‘I’m very touched by all who reached out to see how I’m doing. Unfortunately, my cancer has metastasized in my liver and I’m back in treatment. It’s rough, but the chemo is working,’ she tweeted. 

‘Prayers have carried me through the difficult moments. Thank u for rooting for me.’

Many of Boon’s colleagues and friends offered their support and sent condolences in response to her announcement on Twitter. 

Dave Price of WNBC said: ‘YOU are unstoppable. remember that. All of your family, friends and colleagues are with you Ruschell! Sending love from all of us at WNBC.’

It is unclear when Boone will return to the news desk this time. 

A spokesperson from NY1 told the New York Post the network is focused on Ruschell’s recovery.

‘Ruschell is a beloved member of our team. Her first priority is her health, as it should be, so she is taking time off as needed,’ the spokesperson told the Post. 

Boone announced her cancer diagnosis in July and continued to keep her followers update on social media. 

‘As many of you know, I’ve been battling pancreatic cancer over the last nine months, and right now, I’m cancer-free,’ she said. ‘And after months of chemo and surgery, I am back.’

‘It is so good to be with all of you,’ she added.

Mayor Eric Adams called her after her announcement and called her an ‘inspiration,’ while reassuring her that the he and the public are ‘pulling for her as she takes on this battle.’ 

‘I’m just so happy for you and your family,’ the mayor said. ‘My heart was just heavy when I heard, but you know, God is good all the time.’

‘You may not realize it, you sit here on TV, but you don’t know how much you inspire people,’ he added. ‘I have been on this station from the first day, when you guys opened, and I’m excited about you being back.’

Since her diagnosis, the anchor has advocated in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

Most recently, she attended and hosted the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Purple Stride walk to end pancreatic cancer in April which she shared on Instagram.

Boone, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, is a multi-Emmy award winning journalist. 

In 2016, she made City & State’s top 50 list as one of the most influential people in Queens, according to her website. 

Boone joined the station in 2002 and received the award for Best Spot News Reporting from the New York Association of Black Journalists in 2014. 

She was also awarded the New York Press Club’s award for Best Feature Reporting.

Prior to joining NY1, Ruschell, a gradate of Baruch college, also worked at CNBC and CNN.

‘I’ve always been one to give back to the community and to inspire the youth to pursue their passion,’ Boone wrote on her website. 

‘Growing up I had the privilege of having mentors and I make it my goal to also serve as a mentor to help others reach their benchmarks.’
