David Walliams Apologised For The Disrespectful Comments
David has apologized for his “disrespectful comments” during the filming breaks. And it is said that his decision to leave the program was not taken lightly.
The offensive remarks were made during a taped audition performance at the London Palladium in January 2020. Lawyers for Walliams and Thames TV, the production Company behind Britain’s Got Talent, claimed the comments were private and were never intended to be broadcast.
According to The Sun, Devid decided to retire after a ten-year run because he wanted to leave on a high note after such a memorable time. They went on to say that being on the show had provided him with a great deal of entertainment and joy and that he was arguably the most popular member of the panel.
However, a BGT spokesperson told The Mirror that the 2023 judging panel would be revealed in due course.
What Were David’s Past Controversies?
This isn’t the first time David has been involved in a controversy.
He and Matt Lucas were well-known in Little Britain for portraying characters in blackface. David dressed as Desiree DeVere, and Matt dressed as Pastor Jesse King.
The BBC removed the “Little Britain” program from iPlayer in 2020, citing that times had changed since the network first broadcasted it. Matt and David issued a statement expressing their regret for the decision. They stated that they had both expressed publicly in recent years their regret at playing characters of different races.
In the Little Britain live shows, he also performed a sketch called the predatory pedophile. Human rights activists slammed the move, calling it “sickening and unacceptable.”
